Today my daughter studied about Robots in school, the lesson focused on giving primary kids an idea about what Robots are and what is their purpose.
As always we did a revision of lesson at home. Followed by our DIY activity.
I wanted her to make a simple mechanical robot so that she understands the uses of Robots better.
The easiest thing to do is build a model of robotic arm used to hold things and change their location. Generally this is used in large warehouses. And looks similar to this
We started by collecting the materials we might need to make the mechanical arm.
Material needed:
- 7 ice cream sticks
- One barbeque skewer
- Two way tape
- Paper cutters
- Foam Board
We started by marking 3 dots on 6 ice cream sticks. Two on each corner and one in center.
Next things was to make hole in ice-cream sticks using paper cutter.
Once the ice cream sticks were ready. We cut eight 1cm pieces from skewer. These will be used to assemble our mechanical arm.
Follow below steps to make a zig-zag structure using ice-cream sticks.
Cut the unused ice-cream stick in 3 parts using scissors. Stick two parts into the front of the arm using two way tape or glue.
Now your mechanical arm is ready to use. Just ensure that you don’t try to hold heavy objects with it.
Trust me learning concept this way is fun and also makes sure that child understands it. You can follow it up with a video where in child explains the functioning of what they made.
Just keep on adding fun elements to your home learning sessions.
Happy parenting!
