Lapland has shared folklore of early Santa-like figure, who rode on aYule Goat to deliver gifts on Midwinter’s night. In the 16th century, these myths were combined with the story of St. Nicholas to become the Santa figure we recognise today.
In 1866, an illustration in Harper’s Weekly magazine revealed that Santa lived at the North Pole, providing an association with cold and snowy locations. Gradually with time, Rovaniemi became known to the world as Santa’s Official Home.

The city of Rovaniemi was almost completely destroyed during World War II. Its reconstruction began immediately, with aid from UNICEF. The city map looks like antlers of a Reindeer and it has lot of tourist attractions.
You can meet Santa at his official residence. You can dine at Mrs. Santa’s restaurant. There are lot of fun activities that can be done at various recreation centers in the village.
