This blog gives detailed instruction about various usage of our Mini Montessori bead set.
Introducing Counting
- One can use these bead chains for introducing child to counting.
- Start with single chains for each digit to introduce concept on 1 to 10.
- Later use the beads to form bigger numbers. With this mini-set one can form number till 109.
Ascending and Descending Order
- Arrange in ascending order – let the child arrange bead chains from 1 to 10
- Arrange in descending order
Place Value
- Form a number representation using beads for example 46.
- Help child understand that 6 is unit place as it’s a single chain so place value is 6.
- 40 is represented by 4 10’s chains and so place value of 4 is 40.
Skip Counting
- Use these to practice skip counting till 10
- Gradually add one chain of beads at a time and let child count it.
- Later practice it without counting the beads when child has mastered and recognized the patterns in skip counting.
Odd and Even Number
- Arrange the beads for 1-10, let child segregate odd and even number bead chains.
- Explain that if after forming pair of 2 beads one bead is left alone in the chain that’s an odd number. Also that even and odd numbers are alternate numbers in the series.
Form a bigger number representation and let child identify if its odd or even. Explain that when identifying odd or even number we only consider the unit place , the right most digit in a number. If the right most chain is even the number is even if its odd the number is odd.
Simple Addition By Counting Beads
- Using beads to introduce simple addition concept.
- Form a simple addition sum like 5+3
- Let child pick chain of 5 beads and 3 beads
- Count the beads together
- Pick up the chain with 8 beads to indicate that 5+3 is 8.
- Practice more in similar manner.
Multiplication
- Practice simple tables using below shown method (1-10)
- This show table of 3 computation.
The entire Montessori maths bead collection is very huge and has multiple options for covering various numbers.
This is a mini set for home use , where we have just included basic chain sets.
