This is an activity I recently did with some KG students. This was just a filler classroom activity
Here is a simple game you can try at home.
All you need is placards for displaying direction.
And bunch of kids to play the game. And a tracker card to track scores.
The game is very simple, place the cards in a room indicating directions. Let the kids stand in center.
One person will become the conductor. The conductor has to call out the name of direction and children have to hop in that direction.
If somebody hops in wrong direction he/she is declared out.
This is very simple and effective way to teach and memorize directions.
First we teach left, right, up and down direction.
Once that is done you can proceed with teaching main four directions.
I recently tried this with a group of kindergarten kids and it was big hit. I guess primarily they loved opportunity to jump in random manner in classroom. It added fun element to whole thing.
By the end they knew the words and some could clearly identify direction with reference to their class room layout.
Mission accomplished!
